Description
You are looking at an antique 1 -2 man crosscut logging hand saw made in the USA by Henry Disston & Sons in Philadelphia, Pa. between 1878-88. This nice old saw is marked on the face of the blade with a partial etch that you can make out the words Patent Ground & Philadelphia. The rest is recognizable, but not readable. It is also marked on the recessed medallion. The 42' blade sights straight and features a straight back, a skewed cutting edge with a narrow tip, and 52 individual teeth with 17 rakes that are all intact and in relatively sharp condition. The steel is clean and has a nice patina to it, but also has some dark marks from previous oxidation. There are two positions in the blade for the helper handle. The handle on the piece is Beech, and has no splits or cracks, but does show usage and finish wear. The included helper handle is not a Disston made handle, but was with the saw and works well. The handle is held tight to the blade with three brass saw nuts, one of which holds the "H. Disston & Sons - PHILAD'A" recessed medallion which dates the saw. Great for the collector or the user.I will ship via Parcel Select Mail as soon as cleared payment is received. Please ask questions before you bid, and I will answer promptly.
